Whittaker is the 13th Time Lord in the series and the first woman in the iconic role. Wearing a long coat, big pants and braces, it's our first look at her incarnation of the Time Lord, now Time Lady's costume. "I wonder what it say about her personality?"
But Whittaker is also rocking her own style, putting a fresh, feminine twist on the 13 outfits that came before.
While a minority of commenters said they disliked the idea of a female doctor - The Doctor has been played exclusively by men until now - most of the displeasure was aimed at her new look. Attack The Block's Jodie Whittaker landed the gig, which was a very nice get for Doctor Who, indeed.
It's not gone unnoticed by fans with one saying it "has great elements from previous Doctors".
She told fans not to be "scared" by her gender.
"To be honest I think she looks more like a presenter on Play School or Blue Peter rather than the Doctor", the Progtor Who Podcast tweeted.
Whittaker will be joined by an all-new cast of characters in the series, including Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill. It means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: "hope".
The BBC have shared the first photo of Jodie Whittaker in character as Doctor Who.
