Eighty percent of the athletes that enrolled at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville between 2007-10 graduated within six years, according to numbers released by the NCAA on Wednesday.
Up from last year's 61 percent, Baylor also improved its federal graduation rate to 66 percent for all student-athletes in the most recent study to tie for second among Big 12 institutions behind TCU (69) and Texas (69).
GSR measures the success of an athletics department in graduating its student-athletes within a six-year period. That broke last year's school record of 82 percent and continued UK's trend of having broken or tied the mark for earning diplomas every year since the NCAA began charting graduation in 2005.
The graduation rate is based on a comparison of the number of students who entered college and the number of those who graduated within six years.
"In the past decade, we have worked purposefully to provide additional support and encouragement to assist more than 460 Razorback student-athletes annually in achieving academics and athletics success while advancing toward graduation". Unlike Federal Graduation Rate, which assesses only first-time, full-time freshmen, GSR also includes transfer students and mid-year enrollees in the sample. The WCC average is 90 percent and the NCAA average is 85.
Tech had an 82 percent GSR for the 2016-17 year, according to data released by the NCAA. "We are proud of this noteworthy achievement".
"This is another strong showing from Ohio State's student-athletes", John Davidson, Ohio State Faculty Athletic Representative and Professor in Germanic Languages and Literatures, said. GSR rates that were equal to or higher than the national average for each sport were also made by the same eight programs. Student-athletes who leave an institution while in good academic standing before exhausting athletics eligibility are removed from the cohort of their initial institution (essentially passed to another squad's GSR cohort if they transfer and removed altogether in the case of early departures for professional careers). Five programs - men's cross country/track and field, women's cross country/track and field, golf, women's tennis and volleyball - own ideal 100-percent GSRs. The staff is dedicated to guiding each student athlete through college from time of enrollment into the college to graduation.
