United States Vice President Mike Pence attended an event in NY on Tuesday to mark the 70anniversary of UN General Assembly Resolution 181 that recommended partitioning Mandatory Palestine into a Jewish state and Arab state.
The ramifications of such a move, according to the same sources, would be that Trump would instruct his staff to begin preparations to move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem.
"While for the past 20 years, Congress and successive administrations have expressed a willingness to move our embassy, as we speak, President Donald Trump is actively considering when and how to move the American Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem", Pence said at an event celebrating the 70th anniversary of the United Nations vote on the Partition Plan.
Pence said, "I bring the congratulations and support of a champion of Israel, President Donald Trump" and that "The president sent me with a simple message: Under our administration, America will always stand with Israel".
On June 1, Trump shied away from what was a major campaign promise by signing a legal waiver that keeps the embassy in Tel Aviv.
Next month, Trump is due to sign another waiver postponing a transfer for another six months.
"The president has also made clear that he intends to move the United States embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem".
He said America "stands with Israel because her cause is our cause, her values are our values, and her fight is our fight".
But the law contains a clause that has allowed each president since to issue and renew a six-month waiver on carrying out the move. "While Israel was built by human hands, it's impossible not to see the hand of heaven here too".
"And I take the president at his word, and I'm personally committed to do all that I can to advocate for this move", Friedman said.
"Under President Trump, the USA will not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons", he said.
Israeli Transportation Minister Israel Katz, Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon and Ron Lauder, the president of the World Jewish Congress, will address the audience at the event, which was organized by the Israeli mission to the UN.
The Palestinians, as well as some Arab leaders and top United States officials, have warned that such a move would trigger an uproar and violent unrest in the territories and in Arab capitals that could ruin current U.S. efforts to push the diplomatic process forward.
"In recent months we've made valuable achievements toward achieving that and while compromise will be necessary, you can be assured that Donald Trump will never compromise the safety and security of the Jewish State of Israel", he said. In 1947, the Jewish people realized the impossible.
