SAP will run its private managed cloud service, SAP Hana Enterprise Cloud (SAP S/4 HANA) on Microsoft Azure and this will allow its customers to run its cloud services in a secure, managed cloud. Microsoft said it will use SAP S/4HANA on Azure to track its internal finances, and SAP will do the same for its own operations.
SAP, meanwhile, will be moving more than 12 of its business-critical systems and processes to Azure.
"Building on our longtime partnership, Microsoft and SAP are harnessing each other's products to not only power our own organisations, but to empower our enterprise customers to run their most mission-critical applications and workloads with SAP S/4HANA on Azure".
Microsoft has roped in business-software vendor SAP as a cloud partner, its latest effort at using alliances to challenge Amazon's dominance in the fast-growing business segment, the Wall Street Journal reports. "Azure is a truly global infrastructure that is flexible, scalable and developer-friendly and it has helped us to better serve our customers".
"The strategic partnership announced between Microsoft and SAP is an extremely important development for the Coca-Cola System", states Barry Simpson, senior vice president and chief information officer at The Coca-Cola Company. The Redmond-based firm announced Tuesday it has engineered SAP's cloud and enterprise resource planning software to run on its Azure cloud, as it bids to steal some of the limelight from Amazon Web Service Inc.'s cloud conference this week. "Microsoft and SAP both benefit because they have an overlap of enterprise customers", said Puranik in an email remarks sent to eWEEK. "The value of aligned engineering, sales and delivery between these two strategic partners will allow our system to accelerate our digital agenda". The list of their mutual customers includes companies like Coca-Cola, Coats and Costco Wholesale and Columbia Sportswear. "Our partnership with Microsoft and SAP is essential to us continuing to deliver on that commitment".
A deeper partnership with SAP could open a new path for big corporate customers to use Azure, according to industry analysts.
