Speaking to Billboard after she was named their Woman of the Year for 2017, she said: "I mean I don't think anybody truly, actually cares. I feel incredibly lucky".
The Wolves singer, who recently performed on stage at the AMAs for the first time since undergoing a kidney transplant earlier this year, admitted that she is in a good place these days.
According to Gomez, she can now look at her body and know that her torso scar represents life.
As Camila Cabello, Mary J Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Kehlani, Solange, Grace VanderWaal, Selena Gomez, and Atlantic Records COO Julie Greenwald accepted their awards, they acknowledged that this year has been a meaningful one for women in the music business, as females young and old have continued to pave the way for progress.
Selena Gomez has a lot to celebrate this year.
In accepting her award, Gomez said: "Honestly, I couldn't be more grateful for the position that I've been given in my career from 7 to 14 to now".
Selena, who wore black leather pants with slashes and a strapless corset top by Versace, kicked off her speech by praising Francia and was quickly overcome with emotion.
She continued, adding that, "Specifically this year, I would like to thank my incredible team and my family because they stuck with me through some really hard times".
She then spoke of her reuniting with Justin, saying, "I'm 25".
As fans will likely recall, Gomez announced the news of her surgery to her fans and followers on Instagram in September and quickly thanked her friend for saving her life. I cherish people who have really impacted my life.
"Something that I'm really proud of is that there's such a true friendship [between me and The Weeknd]".
