In a National Review opinion piece titled: Christians, moral hazards and Roy Moore, Christian conservative columnist Heather Wilhelm says prominent social-conservative leaders would do well to steer clear of the Alabama Senate race.
"The President had a positive call with Judge Roy Moore during which they discussed the state of the Alabama Senate race and the President endorsed Judge Moore's campaign", White House deputy press secretary Raj Shah said in a statement. Trump, who himself has faced accusations of sexual harassment, rebuffed the Republican establishment with his endorsement of Moore. Moore faces Democrat Doug Jones for Alabama's U.S. Senate seat in the December 12 election.
This is a breaking story.
Trump tweeted early Monday morning that the "Democrats refusal to give even one vote" for the GOP's Tax Bill is the reason for supporting the much-maligned Moore.
Trump also spoke with Moore by phone.
The former Alabama supreme court judge has been accused by seven women of pursuing sexual relationships with them when they were teenagers and he was a 30-something prosecutor.
"President Trump called Judge Moore a "fighter" and expressed his eagerness to have Judge Moore fighting for his agenda in Washington".
"For those wondering, "#MAGA" is the shortened version of Trump's campaign slogan to Make America Great Again. Cant wait to help him #DrainTheSwamp.. But Trump in recent days has raised doubts about the allegations against Moore, and he has agreed to headline a campaign-style rally in Pensacola, Florida less than 20 miles from the Alabama border just four days before the Alabama election.
Trump described his endorsement in his second tweet. No to Jones, a Pelosi/Schumer Puppet!. "We are uncomfortable with the explanations that Roy Moore has given to date", White House legislative director Marc Short told ABC News.
