Gary Cahill was critical of Chelsea's performance after their 1-0 defeat to West Ham on Saturday, saying they were "miles off it from the start".
"My problem is, I don't know if I've got someone who is that type of player to be a man marker who, you know - you've heard the sayings "if he goes to the toilet, follow him" I don't know if I've got that". When you have this task it is impossible to think that you are in the title race.
"I think I've done it in the past with other players like David Silva at Manchester City".
"It means you are not in the title race".
'My experience tells me if you want to stay in the title race, in the first part of the season you can lose once or twice.
And Hart now has his work cut out just to regain his club place as a lack of game time will weaken Hart's position as the Three Lions first-choice keeper.
"Today many players were exhausted", he said.
"Don't forget in this league it is very hard". It's normal when you play every three days.
"We started our preseason with the same players, a lot are playing nearly always, and for sure you have to pay something for this".
"We have to sit back and wait for the results tomorrow".
The initial signs were positive for the visitors, although they could have fallen further behind had referee Anthony Taylor taken a different view of a handball incident nine minutes after the break. But I repeat, we saw today a bit of tiredness in my players, especially in the last pass, we did a lot of mistakes.
"We have people who can create and score goals so if we can get the back end sorted we might give ourselves a chance of earning some points".
"We have got to try and find a way of getting the best balance".
