Square Enix has announced that a new Tomb Raider game is in the works, and that it will be revealed in a "major event" set to take place sometime in 2018. Gamespot noted that during that year's edition of Gamescom, Square Enix CEO Phil Rogers mentioned the possibility of releasing a third title under the series, mentioning the words "Tomb Raider trilogy".
The publisher did not provide any specifics about the project, such as a name, release window or platforms.
Fans of the "Tomb Raider" franchise, particularly the gamers, will have something to look forward to. While we don't think this counts as the game's "official reveal", the studio's general message suggests that they are not interested in dragging these things out quite so long in terms of the reveal process.
Whoever ends up working on the game, it probably shouldn't come as much of a surprise that there is a new Tomb Raider in the works. But some eagle-eyed Twitter users noticed something unusual: the first letter of each sentence spells out SHADOW.
Again, the message itself seems rather ordinary if only a bit cryptic in leaving out when or what this "major event in 2018" will be.
"I thought something was off about the way they worded this".
Moreover, a PowerPoint presentation inadvertently leaked the title "Shadow of the Tomb Raider", though it is yet to be confirmed if this leak was true, to begin with, the Gamespot report added. Tomb Raider saw Croft stranded on a mythical island and running from a crazed cult, while Rise of the Tomb Raider followed her through Siberia to find the secrets of immortality before a villainous organization.
Earlier this year, someone spotted various logos for a video game called "Shadow of the Tomb Raider", which was the first big leak involving the name, though not the first time we heard about it.
