Five women have publicly accused Hollywood star James Franco of sexually inappropriate behaviour, The Los Angeles Times reported Thursday, just days after the actor triumphed at the Golden Globes. (Both the NY and Los Angeles locations closed a year ago, surprising students, according to the Los Angeles Times.) A former acting student, Sarah Tither-Kaplan, whose tweet about Franco after the Globes went viral, told the newspaper that while filming an orgy scene, he removed the protective plastic guards covering actresses' genitals while he simulated oral sex on them.
While filming scenes at a strip club - the former said she believed it was footage for an art film, while the latter said she was told it was a commercial shoot - Franco allegedly asked the women, "So, who wants to take your shirt off?"
"He just took advantage of our eagerness to work and be a part of something bigger", another student, Natalie Chmiel, said. But one night, she alleged that she was in a vehicle with Franco and she felt compelled to perform oral sex on him because "the power dynamic was really off".
The night of the Golden Globes, in which Franco won best actor in a comedy or musical for "The Disaster Artist", three actresses tweeted accusations of sexual misconduct. Instead, Franco has gone on to address the accusations saying that he believes in the Time's Up movement, but that he finds some of the accusations to be untrue.
"The things that I heard that were on Twitter are not accurate", he told Colbert.
A fourth woman, aspiring filmmaker Violet Paley, met Franco in early 2016.
Representatives for Franco did not immediately respond to request for comment.
"I do it whenever I know that there is something wrong or needs to be changed".
The things that I heard that were on Twitter are not accurate. Franco squirmed but said he was satisfied with letting it be. "Look, in my life I pride myself on taking responsibility for things that I have done", he said then.
Franco's attorney, Michael Plonsker, also disputed all of the women's claims in statements to the Times. "I had nothing but a great time with her, total respect for her".
Franco is alleged to have engaged in exploitative behavior with young women who took classes at his now-closed Studio 4 acting school, which recruited actors keen for a break to appear in projects that involved nudity. Franco, through a lawyer, has denied the allegations against him. James Franco, 39, is continuing his press tour for The Disaster Artist despite facing several sexual misconduct allegations and for the second night in a row he gave a super awkward interview. The Los Angeles Times published the details of the alleged encounters on Thursday, January 11, just days after the Golden Globe victor denied previous claims of sexual misconduct. She alleges that one night he pressured her to perform oral sex on him while they were sitting in a parked car-something she didn't want to do. Though The Disaster Artist's Golden Globe victor wasn't asked about those allegations, he was asked by Meyers about tweets from Ally Sheedy and others alleging similar misbehavior. I think that it's a good thing and I support it.
James Franco got in trouble for pursuing a 17-year-old on Instagram. "I have to", he said without elaborating. "I used bad judgment and I learned my lesson".
