The new Ford Mustang Bullitt Limited Edition gets the 5.0 litre V8 engine with an impressive 475 hp and 420 lb ft of torque. Top speed is raised to 163 miles per hour, an 8 miles per hour increase over the GT. Other features that pay tribute to the auto McQueen drove are subtle chrome accents around the grille and front windows, and classic torque thrust 19-inch aluminium wheels. There's also an new air induction system Ford calls the Open Air Induction System (more details on that coming soon), and it swipes the Shelby GT350 intake manifold and ECU.
Comfort is improved with a heated leather steering wheel and a 12-inch all-digital LCD instrument cluster.
Three interior options come factory installed, including a special Bullitt Electronics Package, which adds navigation, memory seats, an upgraded sound system and assorted driver assists. Kiernan says the auto was never meant to be a secret, but kept it quiet once the plan came together to reveal it with the new Bullitt Mustang on the film's 50 anniversary. "It doesn't need to scream about anything - it's just cool".
Though Steve McQueen's performance in the film Bullitt was certainly memorable, for many the real star was the 1968 Ford Mustang GT 390 used to great effect in the epic vehicle chase through the streets of San Francisco.
It's not the first time Ford has drawn on the film to push sales of its famous pony vehicle.
The all-new 2019 Ford Mustang BULLITT will be available in the summer of 2018.
Ford describes the new GT500 as the "pinnacle of Mustang performance". MagneRide semi-active suspension is offered, as well as Recaro black leather-trimmed seats with green stitching.
"When making a Bullitt, there are certain things it absolutely must have". It also comes standard with the Mustang GT Premium equipment level and everything found in the Performance Package. One was sold by Warner Bros., to a private buyer, and the other went to a salvage yard.
