BMW has already declared 2018 as the year of the "8" with the debut of the 2019 BMW 8 Series Coupe and now it's previewing the four-door Gran Coupe version with the debut of the M8 Gran Coupe concept. We're pretty sure about that because BMW has just lifted the veils off the Concept M8 Gran Coupe at the Geneva Motor Show.
BMW has officially confirmed that the i Vision Dynamics concept that was shown in Frankfurt a year ago will become reality, and will be known as the BMW i4 when it enters into series production.
BMW says the M8 showcases an updated design language and paves the way for a new understanding of the luxury sports vehicle. Although billed as a concept, BMW officials say the new vehicle is closer to production readiness than the earlier Concept 8-Series was when it was revealed past year.
"The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe is created to stir things up, to polarize - it should move you emotionally", said Domagoj Dukec, vice president Design BMW M and BMW i. But among its many unique bold touches, the new concept receives more aggressive front air vents as well as yellow headlights featuring tech borrowed from the M8 GTE race vehicle.
Seems like a pretty heavy hint, though the Concept Gran Coupe's own press release describes how the "muscular flared wheel arches offer a visual expression of the power working through the rear axle". With its long hood, sleek roofline, powerful haunches, and raised up trunk spoiler, the Concept M8 Gran Coupe certainly looks the part. Also included is an aggressive-looking bumper and quad exhaust-pipe treatment to be adopted by the performance-oriented M8 version of the new 4-door model.
"The BMW 8 Series will take over as the new flagship model of the BMW line-up and, as such, combines unsurpassed sportiness and elegance", says Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design.
