That definitely isn't the kitschy robot we remember in Netflix's first full-length trailer for Lost in Space, a reboot of the 1960s sci-fi cult classic. The original Lost in Space aired from 1965 through 1968 and had Guy Williams as Professor John Robinson. A TV series gives the characters room to organically evolve and the IP's background storyline room to breath (exploring new worlds, possible universes, etc.).
In this new, grittier Lost in Space, however, the Robinsons are just one of hundreds of families selected for a planetary colonization mission.

Before Star Wars, before Star Trek, before Marvel Comics got really rolling there was Lost in Space, and it was awesome. But this version of the Robot is more of an enigma, and it may be the first proof of alien intelligence the Robinsons have ever seen.
The poster below also offers a much better look at the new "Robot", along with the sinister tag line, "Danger will find them". But when the new colonists find themselves abruptly torn off course en route to their new home they must forge new alliances and work together to survive in a unsafe alien environment, light-years from their original destination.
The Netflix Original series is produced by Legendary Television and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold, Last Witch Hunter). Along with two outsiders, they wind up stranded on a planet with some treacherous terrain and harsh conditions.
Lost in Space premieres on Netflix on Friday, April 13, 2018. The unsettlingly charismatic Dr. Smith played by Parker Posey is a master manipulator with an inscrutable end game. The cast also includes the aforementioned Posey plus Ignacio Serricchio as Don West.
