"Lowest rated Oscars in HISTORY".
As of Wednesday morning, Trump's tweet had racked up 184,000 of the little hearts, while Kimmel's tally was at 558,000.
According to FiveThirthyEight, Trump's current approval rating sits at 40.4%.
Jimmy Kimmel had a few choice words for President Trump. "But the truth is, every year since Netflix happened ratings are down for every big TV show, the Super Bowl, Grammys, Golden Globes", he noted.
Trump took a victory lap over the low-rated Oscars on Twitter, blaming its decline on there not being "Stars anymore - except your President (just kidding, of course)!".
Jimmy Kimmel already got in a dig at President Trump when he tweeted about the Oscars' diminished ratings, but the Academy Awards host threw more jabs during his monologue on Wednesday's Jimmy Kimmel Live. He tweeted, "Thanks, lowest rated President in HISTORY".
Jimmy Kimmel also said the U.S. president has often criticised the Oscars but he might be impressed with this year's Best Picture victor, "The Shape of Water". "Basically, it's like his life story, right?" The joke was particularly timely given the news Tuesday that Stormy Daniels, with whom Trump reportedly had an affair, is suing him, alleging that he never signed his end of their alleged agreement and thus rendered it invalid.
But on Tuesday it was back to business - which meant making fun of Donald Trump's annual angsty tweets about the Oscars.
Kimmel was obviously referring to Trump's latest sex scandal.
