Counting of votes in both states will be carried out on March 14. After casting his vote at a polling station in his constituency, CM Yogi said that the BJP will win on both seats - Gorakhpur and Phulpur. The state has suffered the negative consequences (of SP and BSP).
Tight security arrangements have been made with almost 6,500 personnel of central armed para-military forces deployed, apart from Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and homeguards to ensure peaceful polling in Gorakhpur and Phulpur seats, vacated by Adityanath and deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya respectively following their election to Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.
Polling in the by-elections to two Lok Sabha constituencies of Gorakhpur and Phulpur in Uttar Pradesh recorded a mere 43 and 38 percent respectively.
Lok Sabha by-election was held in two constituencies in Uttar Pradesh today - Gorakhpur and Phulpur.
Referring to BSP's support to SP in the bypolls, Adityanath, who addressed four rallies in Gorakhpur Friday, said, "When the SP found that the tactic of fielding imported candidate is not working, it mounted elephant (BSP's poll symbol) on bicycle (SP's symbol)?that cycle has already dismantled".
Around 40 candidates have filed their nomination papers for the by-polls to these seats, including BJP candidates Upendra Shukla and Kaushalendra Singh Patel, Samajwadi Party's Pravin Nishad and Nagendra Singh Patel, and Congress candidates Sureetha Kareem and Manish Mishra. The turnout in Jahanabad and Bhabhua Assembly constituencies was 50 per cent and 54 per cent, respectively. Though the by-elections passed off peacefully, cases of VVPAT developing snag were reported. "There is anger among people against Nitish Kumar-led government here because they feel that the mandate they gave in 2015 was violated".
RJD MLA Mundrika Singh Yadav's death necessitated the by-poll in the Jehanabad seat. The party has fielded his son Sujay Yadav against JD (U) candidate Abhiram Sharma. The Bhabua seat is witnessing a straight contest between BJP's Rinki Pandey and Congress' Shambhu Singh Patel. Congress is disseminated because he works with a negative mindset."The Gorakhpur seat was vacated by Yogi Adityanath, a five time MP from Gorakhpur, after being elected to the state legislative council in September last".
