The person said the discussions were preliminary.
Word of the discussions came as Trump's outside legal team has been negotiating with USA special counsel Robert Mueller over a possible interview with the president, another person close to the situation said.
The Times reported that Trump is considering adding the lawyer that helped Bill ClintonWilliam (Bill) Jefferson ClintonShould the Rob Porter outcome set the standard? He has said that his work will be finished when the president's interview is complete and all the White House witnesses have been interviewed by the special counsel's team. Mr. Flood declined to comment.
The president said his team of John Dowd, Ty Cobb and Jay Sekulow is "doing a great job and has "shown conclusively that there was no Collusion with Russian Federation ... just excuse for losing".
"They are doing a great job and...."
Flood now works with law firm Williams & Connolly, and represented Bill Clinton during the Democrat's impeachment proceedings in 1998 amid the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
Flood also spent two years in the White House Counsel's office, where he handled executive-privilege related disputes for President George W. Bush's administration to Congressional investigations and other inquiries.
Trump's attacks come as he's ignored his own lawyers' advice to steer clear of the special counsel investigation.
If an agreement was reached, the White House's current lawyer Ty Cobb (pictured) would not be replaced, The New York Times reports.
Trump then turned his focus directly on Haberman, making good on the promise of the ellipsis that concluded his (at this point nine-minute-old) tweet. But Trump also appears eager to shake up his legal team, alternating between praising Cobb's cooperative strategy and agitating for a more confrontational approach. He is assisted by Jay Sekulow, known for assisting conservative organizations in civil litigations.
Cobb is responsible for handling the White House's response to Mueller's requests, which includes producing documents and arranging interviews.
