Tiger Roll was a second win in the National for Elliott, who was successful in 2007 with Silver Birch.
Pleasant Company, ridden by Rule The World's partner David Mullins, jumped with elan on the front end, but looked booked for minor honours when Tiger Roll strode clear.
After a brief wait the judge confirmed Tiger Roll the narrow victor.
Pleasant Company has won five of his 18 previous starts and he came within the shortest of distance of winning the biggest one of them all. "How f***ed in the head can you be to just ride past a dead horse in the green screens like its nothing?"
Bryony Frost, one of three women jockeys in the race attempting to make history by being the first female victor, was fifth on Milansbar.
He said: "I was nervous".
"He'd better keep him now!" "There was no real lightbulb moment that we realised Gordon was going to turn himself into what he has done, when he won the National first time I was like 'who is he?'" He's lost his mother and I'm sure his father Gerry is very proud at home watching. "I'm definitely going to appreciate it now".
She said: "I picked the dress pretty quickly and I got the hat designed for the dress". He told of his long-lasting passion for the race.
It was a second major reverse at the hands of an Elliott horse in the space of a fortnight for Mullins, having seen his Isleofhopendreams beaten just a head in the Irish National.
Elliott said: "Coming after the Cheltenham we had, we didn't dare dream this".
"It's been an unbelievable training performance from Gordon to turn him from a Triumph Hurdle victor into a National victor".
