Playoff P finished with 36 points as he drained eight three-pointers against the Jazz to lead the Thunder to a 116-108 win and a 1-0 series lead. He made eight of 11 shots from long range, and 13 of 20 shots overall.
The Oklahoma City Thunder were able to solve Utah's defense in their convincing game one win.
Oklahoma City made 35.4 percent of its 3-point attempts in the regular season, ranking 24 in the National Basketball Association.
"He changed the game for us", Westbrook said. "He went to pick-and-roll and he made a couple more, and then we tried to take him and he passed the ball". Utah lost its regular season finale Wednesday at Portland. He's a capable 3-point shooter, having hit six of them against Memphis in December. OKC struggled from the free-throw line in the regular season, ranking 29th in the National Basketball Association, however they went 20 for 23 from the line in game one. This season, OKC obliterated that record by converting on 881 3-pointers.
The Jazz had a brief scare with Donovan Mitchell, who had to head back to the locker room to receive an x-ray on his left foot, which came back negative.
At one stage late in the first half, George teamed with Westbrook and Anthony to score 43 of Oklahoma City's 50 points. On the flip side, the Jazz have a 6.8 percent chance of winning the conference and 3 percent chance to win the Finals.
As Andre Roberson is injured and inactive during these games, George is OKC's best available defender. "Kind of what I talked about coming into this [series] is not being indecisive". When they needed someone to step up with the reserves and keep their momentum going, George was there.
With that being said, here's what separates the Jazz from the Thunder and why we'll see Utah advance to the second round after winning in seven games. "Our job is to make sure we find him and make it easy for him". This alone shows what makes the Thunder's experiment this year so hard, but it worked, at least as far as getting them home court.
