Fortnite's newest limited time mode is called Solo Showdown. They feel that a competitive mode is in the pipeline over at Epic Games. Everyone who plays 50 matches in the four days will also get a unique spray. It's just that you're being tracked for the first 50 matches you play within Solo Showdown to see where you stand.
The Solo Showdown mode started this morning and runs until 10 AM EST on Monday. After that, Epic will tally the results for each players' first 50 Solo Showdown matches (you must play at least 50 to qualify and any match results after that won't affect your ranking).
Aside from the massive bragging rights and fame that can be obtained via this limited time event, there's also the matter of the V-Bucks rewards. Solo Showdown begins today and ends on May 21, 2018 at 10 AM Eastern, with Epic saying that more information about competitive play will be coming next week.
The new mode plays just like any other standard solo match, 100 players drop onto their location of choice in the map, gather supplies, kill everyone else while trying not to get killed themselves, rinse and repeat until they're either dead or the only one left standing.
Place between 50 and 5 and you'll get 13,500 V-bucks, while fourth, third and second place get 25,000 and the victor gets a whopping 50,000.
Fortnite Solo Showdown: What Are the Prizes?
The player who comes in first by the end of the competition will take home a whopping 50,000 V-Bucks. You can check out all the scoring and full list of rules over on Epic Games' site here.
The developers say that Solo Showdown is "a one-off stepping stone to learn how to build great events for all types of players", and are promising, "a major announcement about competitive play next week".
