Johnson said she has not heard directly from the White House since her release but Trump acknowledged the news in a tweet on Thursday morning. She was convicted in 1996 on eight criminal counts related to a Memphis-based cocaine trafficking operation.
Previous appeals to the US Supreme Court have been thrown out and court records show Johnson has a motion pending for a reduction in her sentence.
The television personality later tweeted to say she spoke to Johnson on the phone to tell her the news, saying the phone call was "one of my best memories".
In addition to visiting the Kushner-Trump home last week, Kardashian also stopped by the White House for her meeting with the Donald himself, where she wore an all-black suit with unexpectedly bold neon green stilettos.

Johnson, a black woman in MS, was sentenced in 1996 to life in prison without the possibility of parole for a first-time drug offense.
Shortly after Johnson's commute was announced, Kardashian's family sent her messages of support on social, with Kris Jenner pulling a total #proudmom move.
"When I popped up on her phone it was a moment when she knew that ... this is the person that she needs to do something [for]".
She said both parents died while she was in prison.
"I'm thankful for the media that has been covering this because they have magnified the plight of those serving these sentences for non-violent crimes".
