The Golden State Warriors are the 2017-2018 National Basketball Assn. champions, blowing out the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight 108-85 at Quicken Loans Arena in what may be LeBron James's last game for the OH team.
Golden State outscored Cleveland 25-13 in the third quarter, James managing only four points - all on free throws - in the period, and the Warriors rolled through the final minutes to another coronation.
James finished the Finals with averages of 34 points on 52.7 percent shooting overall (33.3 percent from 3), 10 assists and 8.5 rebounds.
Not wanting to give the Cavs or their fans any hope despite the fact that no team has ever overcome a 3-0 deficit in the National Basketball Association playoffs, the Warriors built a nine-point halftime lead when Curry ignored a closeout by James and dropped a 3-pointer. Yet Golden State won anyway with relative ease because Durant took over the game, accounting for nearly 40 percent of the Warriors' scoring output while also leading the team in rebounds (13) and assists (7).
The Warriors defeated the Cavs in all of their championship runs.
"I came back because I felt like I had some unfinished business", James added.
It was the fourth year in a row the Warriors and Cavaliers met in the finals, Golden State winning in 2015 and the past two years.
"I have no idea at this point", he said when asked if he played his final game for the Cavs.
"The next person who walks up to me and says LeBron James, who is amazing, amazing, is as good as good as Michael Jordan or competes like Michael Jordan, I'm just going to slap the hell out of you right on the spot. All season, getting up, going to work with these guys is fantastic", Durant said. It was that effort that likely won him his second-straight individual Finals honor. "We want to keep this thing going as long as we can".
LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavs' season is pretty much over. "It's The Finals, and we've got to come out and play the way we know how".
LeBron James sat in his locker, covered by more ice than clothing and his right hand - which he injured while punching a whiteboard following the Cavaliers' devastating Game 1 loss - wrapped.
During his postgame press conference on Friday following the Golden State Warriors' sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers, James admitted to the injury and donned his cast. "They made some mini-runs, but over the course of 48 minutes our will took over".
TIP-INS - Warriors: Curry made a 3-pointer in his record 90th consecutive postseason game and extended his mark for 3s in road playoff games to 44.
James, who revealed he had played the final three matches of the 4-0 series defeat with a "self-inflicted" hand injury, has an opt-out in his Cleveland deal this off-season and admits he has some hard decisions to make. "I'll take either one".
Game 1 was the infamous overtime loss following JR Smith's brain fade at the end of regulation, when he forgot the score.
In 2014, James returned to the Cavaliers vowing to win a title and did so in 2016, the first by any Cleveland sports team since the 1964 NFL Browns.
