Trump, who repeated that his tariffs are meant to protect U.S. industry and workers from unfair worldwide competition, told reporters he had suggested to the other G7 leaders that all trade barriers, including tariffs and subsidies, be eliminated.
"If we're unable to make a deal we'll terminate Nafta", Trump said Friday morning.
Before departing the summit, Trump doubled-down on his assertions that the USA has been subjected to unfair trade duties for many years.
Trudeau refused, and the meeting was off.
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Deputy Assistant to the President for International Economic Affairs Everett Eissenstat, will represent the United States for the G7 sessions that Trump will skip Saturday.
"Why are we having a meeting without Russian Federation being in the meeting?"
"We are looking for peace in the world, we are not looking to play games".
"We are ready for this", he said.
"We have a tremendous trade imbalance", Trump said during Saturday's press conference.
On the North American free-trade negotiations, Mr. Trump said he proposed a bilateral deal to Mr. Trudeau, an idea the prime minister rejected. "They understand. They're trying to act like, "Well, we fought with you in the wars" but they don't mention the fact that they have trade barriers against our farmers, they don't mention the fact that they're charging nearly 300-per-cent tariffs". He says: "That's the way it should be".
In his tweetstorm - and again on Saturday - the President said that such actions were hurting US farmers and "killing our agriculture".
Trudeau had also said last week that a deal was close and he was ready to go down to Washington, D.C.to meet with Trump and finalize it - but in a conversation with Vice President Mike Pence, Trudeau refused to agree to a sunset clause in the deal, and the meeting was called off.
Though the US appears increasingly isolated from its allies, Trump on Saturday insisted that his relationships with other leaders remains "great". Canada, Mexico and the European Union all threatened retaliatory tariffs after their exemption status was lifted.
Speaking about Russia's military incursion in Crimea, a peninsula that was part of Ukraine, Trump on Saturday blamed President Obama for the annexation.

Trump is scheduled to address the US news media at 10 a.m. EDT on Saturday.
Still, the United States and European Union will establish a dialogue on trade within the next two weeks, signalling a modest step forward for the bitterly divided allies of the G7.
Republican Sen. Jeff Flake, a frequent critic of the president on foreign policy, also tweeted, "No, Russia should not be added to the G-7".
The president met with leaders from Canada, Britain, Italy, France, Germany and Japan in Quebec, where trade talks dominated the summit.
The decision to issue a separate declaration on oceans came at the very last minute, as Trudeau was addressing media.
