"But we didn't think much of it".
"Mr. Ripert thought it was unusual", waiter Maxime Voinson said in an interview.
Montiel, who started in the business washing dishes 15 years ago, said Bourdain was "one of the few chefs that valued the work of the Latinos in the kitchen". He then also missed a breakfast with Ripert on Friday morning, which caused his friend to grow concerned.
Meanwhile, the TV star's camera crew had set up to film at an outdoor market in nearby Strasbourg.
Still, by many accounts, including Ripert's, Bourdain had not been himself.
Since Friday, mourners have gathered to leave flowers and messages at Brasserie Les Halles, the now-shuttered Park Avenue restaurant where Bourdain became the executive chef in 1998 and immortalized the experience in his 2000 bestseller, "Kitchen Confidential".
Bourdain's mother told the New York Post that Ripert told her Bourdain had been in a "dark mood" in the couple of days leading up to his shocking death. Bourdain's mother, Gladys Bourdain, told The New York Times that Ripert had told her that "Tony had been in a dark mood these past couple of days", but that she had no idea why he might have chose to kill himself. "She made everybody feel welcome", King said Friday night.
"This is killer", Obama told Bourdain, as he dove in for more. I wish him peace.
"The reason people loved him and watched him travel around the world was that he had an innate curiosity about other people and other cultures", she said.
"You had to fight through a wall of skeptical P.R.to get to someone like Guy Fieri, but Bourdain was right there, for everyone, in equal measure", she went on.
The Bun Cha Huong Lien restaurant in the Vietnamese capital's leafy Old Quarter soared to fame after the 2016 sit-down between Obama and Bourdain for the latter's CNN show.
Ms Nga, who helps run the restaurant in the Vietnamese capital, remembered Bourdain as a "nice, friendly and folksy person".
'He'd put everything into the shoots and then go back to his room to isolate'.
Bourdain's girlfriend, actress Argento, recently broke her silence on the celebrity chef's death.
On May 30, Argento posted on Instagram a photo of Bourdain sitting on a ferry as they traveled to Kowloon.
The two were photographed laughing and hugging. "I've been walking around all day with this empty pit in my stomach". The 42-year-old brunette beauty stepped out with her daughter while wearing large sunglasses and a black shirt.
She urged her Twitter followers to keep an eye on the behaviour of their loved ones.
"His brilliant, fearless spirit touched and inspired so many, and his generosity knew no bounds".
Asia also wrote "He was my love, my rock, my protector. I am beyond devastated". "Our thoughts are with Andy and the entire Spade family at this time".
