It is now not clear when YouTube Music will launch in South Africa.
However, the release of YouTube Music on May 22 will be initially limited to the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and South Korea. "[We're] introducing YouTube Music, a new music streaming service made for music with the magic of YouTube: making the world of music easier to explore and more personalised than ever". In a confusing move, Google Play Music will continue to exist as a separate service from YouTube Music, but if you're a subscriber to the former, you get the latter service at no extra cost.
After confirming last night that YouTube Music Premium and YouTube Premium are both coming soon, Google has now provided more info on its official YouTube blog. Subscribers (US price $9.99 per month) will benefit from an advertising free experience, downloads for offline play, and rather importantly - the app enables background play/screen off capabilities for paying customers.

YouTube Music, YouTube Music Premium, and YouTube Premium are new services that Google announced yesterday; they are Google's next, and maybe final, attempt at establishing a free and paid streaming service to compete with the likes of Spotify or Apple Music. There will be a new YouTube Music app, which will feature a personalized home screen which "dynamically adapts to provide recommendations based on people's listening history, where they are and what they're doing". The company says it will subsequently become available in Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK. From questions about the family plan to Play Music membership, Google has provided us with several answers. In fact YouTube claims that it will be even better as they are planning more original series and movies.
