Speaking to reporters at the Pentagon on Wednesday, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said he had not yet seen any steps by North Korea to dismantle its nuclear program.
"Everybody can now feel much safer than the day I took office", Trump tweeted upon returning to the U.S.
North Korea announced before the Singapore summit the suspension of its ICBM testing and also closed its nuclear bomb test site, where it conducted several explosions in front of visiting media that it said were to destroy testing tunnels.
They said no experienced diplomat would ever take Kim's word seriously, and that's why they were simply dumbfounded that Trump appeared to have fallen for it. "Detailed negotiations have not begun", he said.
North and South Korea agreed on Friday (Jun 22) to resume reunions in August for families separated by the Korean War.
Kim Jong Un concluded a two-day whirlwind visit to China Wednesday, where he declared North Korea's unstinting "friendship" with Beijing in a show of loyalty to his main ally following a landmark summit with US President Donald Trump.
"Chairman Kim promised that North Korea would destroy a missile engine test stand soon", that official told the news outlet. "We owe a profound debt of gratitude to USA service members who gave their lives in service to their country, and we are working diligently to bring them home". Meeting with Kim Jong Un was an interesting and very positive experience.
During his meeting with Xi Tuesday, Kim thanked China for "positive and honest support and good help for the successful" summit with Trump, according to North Korea´s official KCNA news agency.
"Meanwhile, sanctions will remain in place until we are assured that complete denuclearization has been achieved", she said.
"They could quickly come back should we see the dialogue momentum losing speed or North Korea not living up to its denuclearization commitment", she said.
Mr Trump surprised officials in South Korea and the US after that meeting by saying he would end "provocative" joint US-South Korean military exercises.
"Those discussions are also ongoing right now, but I don't have any updates for you", he told reporters. The U.S. says China is in agreement on that point, although Chinese officials say sanctions should not be an end in themselves. But it's unclear what Trump meant when he went on to say "it was actually four of their big test sites". "I know that we're engaged on it".
And as far as the South Koreans are concerned, the last thing they want is probably a North Korea that is secretly retaining its nuclear capabilities and undergoing rapid economic growth at the same time.
"The situation is different from a year ago when missile launches were frequent and it is not a situation where missiles will soon come flying", he told a news conference, adding that the matter of the drills was under consideration.
Addressing the summit declaration, which has been widely critiqued for its vagueness, Kang said: "Complete denuclearization is the goal".
