Variety first reported last week that Baron Cohen was in talks with Showtime on a new series that would be similar in format to "Da Ali G Show", which saw Baron Cohen conducting interviews with public figures in disguise as various characters and everyday people. "That's the first time I ever signed a waterboard".
A quick cut montage was followed by an interview with former US Vice President Dick Cheney, 77. The video is presented without context, but it appears Cohen was somehow able to convince the former USA vice president to sign his "waterboard kit". But apart from a few cryptic videos teasing the July 15 premiere of "perhaps the most risky show in the history of television", we knew little about the new series.
The seven-episode series has been in the works over the past year, per Showtime, and "will explore the diverse individuals, from the infamous to the unknown across the political and cultural spectrum, who populate our unique nation".
Vulture, meanwhile, has revealed that the show will be titled, "Who Is America? having spotted posters in Brooklyn which say, "You've been warned" and appear to show Sacha Baron Cohen peeking out with sunglasses on".
Producers explain: "Famous for creating a roster of iconic moments and incendiary characters, Baron Cohen returns to series television for the first time in more than a decade, writing and directing Who Is America?".
Sacha Baron Cohen is making a new TV series called Who Is America? Other than Trump, Baron Cohen could also be targeting other celebrities. "He's back as you've never seen him before", a caption on the video said before the words "Sacha Graduates Soon" and the Trump University logo appear on screen.
