Jeffrey Hunter played the character in the first pilot for Star Trek: The Original Series. Since the Season 1 finale, Marvel's Inhumans actor Anson Mount will be playing Pike, who will play an important role during Season 2.
Following the surprise hit of the first season of Star Trek: Discovery, CBS All Access announced at Comic Con on Friday that it has ordered a short-form spin-off entitled Short Treks that will debut in the fall. She would later go on to have roles in later Star Trek shows and films as well.
The spin-off will consist of four episodes of 10-15 minutes.
With original showrunner Bryan Fuller out, replacement showrunners Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts also gone, and Kurtzman now in, Star Trek: Discovery seems to be going all out for its second season to make up for the various changing of hands and the bumpy journey it's had from concept to execution to final product. Who will play this iconic leading lady?
The group, including cocreator/new co-showrunner Alex Kurtzman and executive producer Heather Kadin, then got to previewing Season 2 and how the Discovery crew will react to crossing paths with the Enterprise and its esteemed Captain Pike. Anson Mount was cast earlier this year to play Pike. Also of note is an appearance by one of my favorite comedians, Tig Notaro.
Spock actually isn't the only well-known Star Trek character that will pop up in Discovery come season 2. But for me and based on what I heard about the first season, there's not enough here to be like, "Yes, I must pony up for a CBS All Access subscription to watch this excellent TV show".
