Rose will be playing the Kate Kane version of the character, who, armed with a passion for social justice and flair for speaking her mind, soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city's criminal resurgence. The series will be executive-produced by super producer Greg Berlanti and Caroline Dries, who will also serve as the writer on the project. Batwoman already has been a trailblazer for LGBTQ+ representation in comics.
The "crossover" event will see Rose's Batwoman team up with Green Arrow (Stephen Amell), The Flash (Grant Gustin), Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and the DC Legends, potentially including Atom (Brandon Routh), White Canary (Cathy Loitz), Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell) and John Constantine (Matt Ryan). But don't call her hero yet.
She has also appeared in XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, Resident Evil: Final Chapter, John Wick: Chapter Two, and Pitch Perfect 3. "After a long hiatus, she was reintroduced to the DC comic universe in 2006 when she was established as a Jewish lesbian, becoming the first-ever lesbian superhero title DC character".
"We're incredibly excited to announce that we'll be doing another crossover event this fall on the CW, and we'll be introducing a new character", Amell said.
Are you excited to see Rose make her debut as Kate Kane/Batwoman? She once aspired to have a successful military career, but those dreams sadly came to an end as she was kicked out of West Point once she came out of the closet. And while details are still relatively slim about how Kate Kane will make her grand entrance into the Arrowverse, this casting shows that it's being set in motion.
This is a logical move for both Ruby Rose and The CW.
