In the aftermath of the Raiders' decision to send Khalil Mack to the Bears, Greg Papa joined "Joe, Lo and Dibs" to offer his thoughts on the monster trade. A person with direct knowledge of the trade told The Associated Press that Oakland will get first-round selections in 2019 and 2020, a sixth-rounder next year and a third-rounder in 2020. "And we know it's a part of the business".
Gruden addressed the trade Sunday, and he made things a whole lot more confusing while explaining why the deal happened. The hardest part for me is, obviously, you lose a good football player, but he's my brother, man.
The Oakland Raiders were never sold on the idea of moving superstar Khalil Mack. When it came down to it, Mack and the Raiders weren't seeing eye to eye. Mack has been working out on his own, and Nagy said he looks to be in excellent shape, but his availability for Week One will depend on how he looks physically in practices this week, which began Monday morning inside the Walter Payton Center. Three years into his tenure with the Raiders, and he has not necessary lived up to the expectations of a first round pick, and this is a make-or-break season for him in 2018.
Well, while Mack is now a member of the Chicago Bears, and he and Carr are no longer teammates, the Silver and Black's franchise quarterback is happy with what he and Mack accomplished during their time together.
Arden Key, Oakland's third-round pick who is expected to get the majority of playing time in place of Mack, had been hopeful of learning from a player who compiled 40 1/2 sacks in his first four National Football League seasons.
"We want to be able to see some conditioning when he's out there, (if) he's able to really give 100 percent of what he can do", Nagy said.
"I don't believe we were anywhere close to where the Bears were".
That left little room for Mack under the salary cap, even though Carr specifically said he structured his contract in order to make it easier for the team to keep Mack. I don't know what my man the Gru-dog is doing. You just hope it can work out. "We all will miss him, but we will all move on".
"(He) said what he said, invited anyone who needed to talk to him, open door", Carr said.
"It didn't go away, because he's your buddy, but at the same time it went away because we have a game to get ready for".
