Evans was on hand for the last pieces of filming for Avengers 4, which is now untitled, and sent out a tweet as he finished the role that he has played for eight years.
'To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories!
Speculations of Evans' departure began earlier this year with some publications reporting that the actor has no plans of returning to the the franchise once Avengers: Infinity War hits theatres.
Needless to say, film fans are feeling pretty emotional right now.
After seven years and 10 films, Chris Evans has completed his final contractual obligations on Avengers 4, and it looks like he's not coming back again.
If Evans is in fact finished playing Captain America after Avengers 4, that would likely close the door on potential crossovers between Marvel's beloved boy scout and the Merc With a Mouth known as Deadpool.
"Captain America: The First Avenger" was released in 2011, and the "Avengers" movie due out next year is reportedly the last one for which Evans is under contract. "I'm weeping. There's a difference". While some (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) congratulated Evans, writing, "What a run you had, brother".
"You want to get off the train before they push you off", the star explained.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers 4 stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Brie Larson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Bettany, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Evangeline Lilly, and Josh Brolin.
