Boston Red Sox starting pitcher David Price is taken out during the second inning of Game 2 of a baseball American League Division Series against the New York Yankees, Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, in Boston. Luis Severino is scheduled to pitch for the Yankees against Rick Porcello or Nathan Eovaldi.
"We have to keep them in the ballpark".
"Seems like it's a good matchup", Cora said.
The Yankees didn't really need Tanaka to go deep into the game. There's an urgency to a best-of-five series two games in, and Price did pitch well in his relief stints last October. Sanchez has six home runs off Price, remarkably in just 14 career at-bats.
"In this situation in the playoffs, you don't know how long you are going to be in there and we made a move pretty early in the game", was Happ's somewhat terse post-game review. "That's kind of what we've been waiting for to some degree where he can take over a game on offense".
The 2012 AL Cy Young Award victor - and two-time runner-up for the award - Price signed a seven-year, $217 million deal to come to Boston as a free agent before the 2016 season and has pitched like an ace at times in the regular season. For as much as Boone said he's seen Sanchez make strides, he said he felt Severino has sharpened his mechanics and his command later in the season.
"I said it past year and I'll say it again: I want to win".
"I've never been a part of an atmosphere like that, the way the fans - they're out there on the field with you". Knowing that, you have to go out there and execute pitches in big spots in counts.
"He left something there for me and I was able to hit it well", Sanchez said.
Price was yanked off the mound after logging just 1 2/3 innings; per Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston, it was the first outing of his career during which he failed to record even one strikeout.
Price's postseason troubles are quickly becoming legendary. Although Cora has stated Price will remain a starter, he could be called upon in Game 3 or 4 out of the bullpen if the team needs him. On the road, he is 9-6 with a 3.99 ERA, but he is 10-2 with a 2.74 ERA at Yankee Stadium. But after throwing just 42 pitches Saturday, Price could function as a reliever before the series is out.
Price said he'll be ready to go on Monday. He's a fantastic centerfielder and a switch-hitter who works the count nearly every time he's up. "I don't want this to be about me and me not winning. That's what I worry about".
Game 5 would be back in Boston on Thursday, if necessary. One was Ryan Brasier. The Yankees have certainly victimized other pitchers this season, but an inordinate number of them, nine in the regular season and two more Saturday night, have come against Price, in just 17 1/3 innings combined.
It was the longest home run of the postseason - for about five innings.
"No excuses. I just didn't get it done". Red Sox manager Alex Cora pointed to location. One is, of course, Aaron (insert your verb of choice) Boone. The Fenway faithful did not hesitate to let their frustration known. And which teams are a must-back? "I mean, this is what it's all about in a lot of ways".
Eovaldi has done it against the Yankees several times this year. "That's now begun. To get to play here in this venue is special".
