David Price is still looking for his first postseason win as a starter.
"No, no, he started feeling bad after the game", Cora said.
The grim news, he's still saving them.
The Red Sox left-hander reported a stomach ailment following his Saturday start against the Astros in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series. We're in a great time to be a baseball fan. "I came here to win, period".
The stakes: Teams up 2-0 in a best-of-seven series have gone 69-13 as far as winning their series - that's 84.1 percent of the time. I understand the narratives and I deserve those.
Houston and Boston are tied 1-1 heading into Game 3 of the ALCS. Springer took third on a wild pitch and scored on Jose Altuve's single off the Green Monster, but Kimbrel got the save when Benintendi made a twisting catch in front of the wall on Alex Bregman's fly ball to left.
"I'd rather miss where I did than the middle of the plate (like he did vs. the Yankees in the ALDS, )" Price said.
Because Boston manager Alex Cora felt the need to use Porcello in that situation, it forced him to go with Nate Eovaldi as his Game 3 starter on Tuesday.
Price's third inning was more his own doing. As he left the field, many among the 37,960 Fenway Faithful offered up a standing ovation. "Baby steps are baby steps", Price said after the outing. "It wasn't the [box score] line I dreamed to have tonight".
The final three of those outs were delivered by Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel, last seen coming within a breath of wind of surrendering a walk-off grand slam at Yankee Stadium in the clinching Game 4 of the division series five nights earlier. He gave Boston a 7-4 lead with an RBI double in the eighth. In the bottom half of the seventh, facing Lance McCullers, Jr., Mookie Betts led off with a walk. Marwin Gonzalez hit a two-run homer for the Astros, who host the next three games after losing for the first time in this year's postseason.
It'd be surprising to see Sale used in Game 3 either way, but he'd still be in line to start Thursday's Game 5 on regular rest.
It says here that Eovaldi will shove again, while the Red Sox do enough damage against Keuchel. His performance would look a lot better if it was only two earned runs instead of four.
Cora wants the right-handed bat against lefty Dallas Keuchel, who actually has reverse splits and was hit better by left-handed batters (.281, .707 OPS) than righties (.259, .703) this season. He flied out to right field on the next pitch.
It's worth noting the Red Sox could always replace Sale on the roster if his illness prevents him from contributing.
The Red Sox said Sale was released from Massachusetts General Hospital on Monday.
Sale, who was off with his command and his velocity, was expected to remain at the hospital overnight for observation.
David Price's team won a postseason game he started for the first time.
