Hue Jackson appears headed to Cincinnati.
Head coach Hue Jackson of the Cleveland Browns reacts to a play in the second half against the Los Angeles Chargers at FirstEnergy Stadium on October 14, 2018 in Cleveland, Ohio. "I'm serious. We're going to look at everything".
Dorsey mentioned winning multiple times Wednesday morning and he spoke about finishing the season strong.
Jackson ultimately left Cincinnati for the head coaching job in Cleveland, instead of waiting it out and likely taking over for Lewis when he moved on. Gregg Williams has taken over the team on an interim basis.
"Thank you", Jackson replied with a chuckle before continuing his answer on Lewis' new dual role. "They've been very structured, the've been very disciplined and guys have had some energy and that's the difference I see". "Just make sure you don't mess it up. that's what I tell myself. just don't mess this thing up".
What gives Dorsey confidence when he ponders the coaching search as he drives home is his conclusion that the Browns are positioned to lure the top candidates.
"Let me put it this way: we had the first pick in the draft a year ago". Dorsey said Williams has earned it, citing Williams' aptitude at steadying the franchise over the past two weeks. "I'm not going to say very much because the importance of this selection, who that person will be, so I'm not going to say much".
Dorsey will lead the search; he said the team does not need a search firm, something owner Jimmy Haslam has used in the past. Dorsey said he'd hire a woman if he felt she was the best fit. "I would like a man who has high football acumen", he said. "For me personally, I would like to see a man of character". Dorsey wouldn't disclose who's on that team, but it's a safe bet the group includes his right-hand men, assistant GM Eliot Wolf and vice president of player personnel Alonzo Highsmith.
