AWSs reliable, secure and proven infrastructure lets us scale quickly and access industry-leading services to test and deploy new technologies that delight our customers while protecting our assets in the cloud.
That's what went down at re:Invent on Monday night, when the world's largest cloud provider AWS announced that renting Arm servers at low costs is now a reality.
Jassy told a media briefing that AWS Ground Station is "the world's first fully managed global ground station-as-a-service". Once all this data is downloaded, you need servers, storage, and networking in close proximity to the antennae to process, store, and transport the data from the satellites.
Uplinking and downlinking satellite data, AWS says, is bound to get cheaper.
"Klika Tech is honored to be working alongside AWS during this introduction of the AWS IoT Core Service Delivery program, and we are excited about the next-level IoT products and solutions we are going to continue developing with customers", said Gennadiy M. Borisov, Klika Tech President and COO. Satellite operators use ground stations to send data back and forth into orbit and require a specialized array of antennas, computing infrastructure and networks.
AWS plans to open its first data centre in Africa in Cape Town in early 2020.
AWS Global Accelerator, available today, uses AWS' global network backbone to direct traffic from users to application endpoints across AWS regions.
"With this new system, the image will be crystal clear and this will be crucial for application in autonomous vehicles", Scott said. This allows reduction in data processing and analysis times - from hours to minutes or seconds - for use cases like weather prediction or natural disaster imagery.
"We process more than a third of mortgage applications in the United States, and use AWS to help us deliver on our mission of the true digital mortgage, so lenders can achieve compliance, quality, and efficiency", said Satheesh Ravala, Senior Vice President, Cloud Engineering and Operations at Ellie Mae. Analytics and machine learning can be applied to this data to identify the safest exit routes and best locations for temporary shelters and emergency medical facilities.
The data retrieved from satellites will be stored in Amazon's private cloud, and Amazon is partnering with some satellite companies including DigitalGlobe, Spire Global, HawkEye360 and BlackSky to boost the growing market of satellite-related business.
Then when it comes to Lockheed Martin the two companies announced virtual resilient ground - or VERGE - to combat the issue of parabolic antennas and their limitation to only communicate with one satellite at a time, and only when it is directly overhead. Short for Virtual Resilient Ground, Verge is a network of low-priced ground antennas about a cubic foot in size that can communicate with the exploding number of small satellites many companies are sending into space for many applications.
