During a walkabout outside the Warrant Officers and Sergeants' Mess, Kate chatted with well-wishers - and revealed that 7-month-old son Prince Louis is already working on his royal wave. "Yesterday they were all talking about what we do at the party and I guess all the families are proud of what we do and serving".
On Tuesday, the Duchess of Cambridge, 36, stepped out in a very festive outfit that included an ankle-length pleated tartan skirt ($1,112) from one of her favorite designers, Emilia Wickstead. The Duchess joked the delivery "really was royal mail".
Over Christmas, 11,000 men and women will be deployed by the Army, Royal Navy and RAF in 35 countries, Prince William said in a brief speech.
Troops stationed at the air base will receive goody bags containing small treats like chocolate and magazine over Christmas, along with letters from cadets and parcels from military charities.
"I'm sorry that we couldn't bring your families with us for Christmas".
Kate told the guests: "William and I just wanted to pass on our huge gratitude to all of you here today".
Prince William spent seven years working in the military, most recently as a helicopter pilot for the RAF Search and Rescue based in Anglesey in North Wales.
