As previously reported, Kevin Hart was recently criticized for his past jokes, which were seen as homophobic and anti-LGBTQ, which led to him stepping down as the scheduled host of the Academy Awards.
Hart was named as host of the 2019 Academy Awards show on December 4th of previous year but stepped down amid the controversy of homophobic jokes. After facing some criticism for his appearance on Ellen last week, Hart further addressed the controversy over his old "homophobic" jokes on his Sirius XM radio show. Hart says he won't be hosting the Academy Awards.
"There's no more conversation about it ..." I'm over that, I'm over the moment, and I'm about today.
"I'm not giving no more explanation of who I am", he added. I'm riding with you guys.
"You're not getting no more of my energy from it", he added.
"The Academy, they're wonderful people", he added. I've done it. I've done it several times ... Less than 48 hours later, Hart bowed out of his hosting duties after a social media mob came after him for decade-old tweets (as social media mobs do).
Hmm, it's not a stretch to think that the Academy might invite Hart back in the future - the buzz surrounding it would surely draw in viewership, but then again it could absolutely distract from the night, too.
"But in the fight for equality, that means that there has to be an acceptance for change".
Hart had initially been announced as the host of the 91st Oscars in December.
After Philipps said that it would be "super lame" for there to be no host at all, Mandel expressed the issues he has with awards shows in general.
In the most absurd sequence of events, the Academy allowed Ellen DeGeneres to insert herself into the breach, playing Oscar producer by publicly lobbying for Hart to be reinstated, and saying that organizers were open to the prospect. "So anything, anything that I say that's not appropriate, that's wrong. you're gonna pick me apart".
Harts homophobic tweets from 2009 - 2011 resurfaced last month after he was given the gig.
"I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year's Oscar's.this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many wonderful talented artists", he wrote on Twitter.
