The Arizona police have arrested a 36-year-old male nurse after it was determined that he was responsible for raping and impregnating a woman admitted in the hospital, who gave birth while in a vegetative state.
Joined by other police officials and city leaders, Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams announces the arrest of Nathan Sutherland, a licensed practical nurse, on one count of sexual assault and one count of vulnerable adult abuse on an incapacitated woman who gave birth last month at a long-term health care facility on January 23, 2019.
Nathan Sutherland, a licensed practical nurse in charge of the facility wing where the victim resided, was arrested Tuesday and charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of vulnerable adult abuse.
Hacienda Healthcare CEO Bill Timmons stood down this month amid the deepening scandal. On Friday, he voluntarily surrendered his license to the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
In response to the governor's tweets, Hacienda HealthCare stated they have agreed to the State of Arizona's "request to have a third-party management team in place to oversee patient care and daily operations".
Sutherland had worked at Hacienda HealthCare since 2011, police said.
The baby boy is now being cared for by them and is doing well, police spokesperson Tommy Thompson said.
Sutherland was one of the woman's caregivers at the Hacienda HealthCare facility and he was charged after authorities obtained a court order to take a DNA sample from him.(AP). The divorce was filed on December 5 while the baby was born at Hacienda Healthcare on December 9.
She is unable to speak but has some movement in her limbs, neck, head and face. "[There] you're blessed if you have one bowl of rice a day". Together with his wife, Sutherland ran a catering company that specialized in weddings and business events. He has not yet entered a plea. He and his sister formed Sleeplessouljaz, a Christian rap group.
She said she is now going to get her son tested for sexually transmitted diseases. He is a licensed practical nurse, a position which usually entails caring for people who are sick, injured, convalescent or disabled.
"I can't believe it", Burr said. While speaking to NBC News, Pastor Mosley said, "That was back in the early days, him and his sister had a rap act". "He told me he was a nurse and he liked his job".
A former neighbor, Esella Burr, said she lived next to Sutherland, his wife and four children for more than five years.
According to the articles of incorporation for Life in You Inc., the nonprofit aimed to "show Christ's unconditional love by responding to the spiritual and physical needs" of youth who were homeless, developmentally disabled, behaviorally challenged or orphaned in Phoenix and Maricopa County.
