An audience member brought up the reality that there are many Jackson fans who don't believe them, and asked if they had a message for them.
US pop star Michael Jackson gestures during a news conference at the O2 Arena in London March 5, 2009. He interviewed Robson for three days and Safechuck for two days before deciding that he also wanted to speak to their mothers.
In a statement from spokespersons in Michael Jackson's estate, they claimed that the 36-year-old Robson, and Safechuck, 40, were "liars" and "perjurers", and were taking legitimacy away from real victims of child abuse.
According to The Sun, the star is "utterly distraught" by the film in which allegations against her late father have resurfaced so close to the 10th anniversary of his passing in June.
For James Safechuck, who said the sexual abuse started when he was eleven, they engaged in sex acts many times in a castle, an attic, a pool, a train station at Jackson's Neverland compound, he is reported to have said in the documentary. The production, Leaving Neverland, features the claims made by Robson and Safechuck, the two men whose accusations were already addressed in a court of law.
The film tracks how Michael Jackson cultivated relationships with these boys and their families.
Jackson's estate sharply denounced the film Friday night, calling it "the kind of tabloid character assassination Michael Jackson endured in life, and now in death".
"We are proud of what Michael Jackson stands for", the statement said.
Reed said: "There must be dozens of men out there who have been sexually abused by him".
Inside the theater, mental health professionals were on hand to assist viewers with processing the graphic nature and emotional intensity of the four-hour film, and the festival's director introduced the screening with a trigger warning. "Now that Michael is no longer here to defend himself, Robson, Safechuck and their lawyers continue their efforts to achieve notoriety and a payday by smearing him with the same allegations a jury found him innocent of when he was alive", the statement read. Jackson died in 2009 of a propofol overdose.
"So I understand, and we can only accept and understand something when we're ready".
"If there's anything we've learned during this time in our history, it's that sexual abuse is complicated, and survivors' voices need to be listened to", he said in a statement earlier this month.
