Measles is highly contagious and can be very risky for infants, people with weakened immune systems, and those who have not been vaccinated. It now includes OMSI, the Fred Meyer in Wood Village and Costco in Northeast Portland.
Sparling says the clinic recently created a measles task force that meets daily. Sometimes they see patients in the parking lot to avoid contamination. The one case that visited this area in December is unrelated to the current outbreak in Washington State, according to the press release.
Every time an unvaccinated person who has been exposed to measles goes out in public, "it starts that clock over again", Armstrong said.
SPARLING: We're trying to be as careful as we can because we'd like to try to shut down this infection chain.
In 2018, 17 outbreaks and 349 cases have been reported in 27 jurisdictions of the United States.
Twenty-five of the 35 people in Clark County who've caught the measles are kids between the ages of 1 and 10, while another nine are between 11 and 18. The locations are now considered safe because the virus can only live up to two hours in airspace where an infected person coughed or sneezed.
Dr. Alan Melnick is Clark County's public health director. Two doses are about 97% effective.
The King County case was in a man in his 50s, who was hospitalized for the disease, which he may have acquired during a recent trip to Clark County, according to local officials.
Measles leads to potentially life-threatening pneumonia in 1 in 20 infected children and is "so contagious that if one person has it, 90 percent of the people close to that person who are not immune will also become infected", according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"I'm just so scared", she said.
Anyone who has never been vaccinated is at higher risk of getting measles if they come into contact with someone who is contagious.
"I think we gave into the fear right away because of having such a young child", she said.
SOLOMON: For now, Jasurta and her family are avoiding crowded areas and even chose to delay their daughter's birthday party.
