Abrams announced an end to principal photography Friday on the still-untitled final episode of the trilogy. And a rumor recently posted by Making Star Wars (which has a good track record for these kinds of things) might reveal a major reason for the change. "No news on when they'll get the key, but they had the Aladdin trailer DCP for two weeks before it came out on Monday... therefore, Friday might be the day, but that's pure speculation".
Disney's President of Consumer Products Commercialization thinks that Triple Force Friday will be "an epic moment for fans, families, and retailers", which is quite a lofty promise considering we haven't seen any of their products yet.
After this movie, it's not clear what direction Disney will take Star Wars. With the Mouse House's ridiculously stacked release schedule this year, the hugely anticipated finale to Star Wars' central Skywalker Saga (arriving December 22) will share the lucrative season with the hugely anticipated Frozen 2 (out November 22).
Hopefully this merchandise announcement means more details are on the way. And last but not least is the Jedi Fallen Order video game from Respawn Entertainment. Apparently, the game will be released sometime during the holiday season this year.
According to one dedicated Star Wars Redditer, a "reliable source" has touted the next film is called Son Of Darkness. However, unlike Force Friday, it doesn't sound like Frozen Fan Fest will begin at midnight. "The "Frozen 2" product assortment spans categories including toys, apparel, fashion accessories, housewares, books and much, much more!"
Johnson spearheaded The Last Jedi, and was on the receiving end of fan backlash in the wake of its release.
