Over the weekend (and continuing today), there have been countless reports from PlayStation 4 players claiming that Anthem is giving them error messages, booting them to the console's dashboard, and even crashing the console altogether. Unsurprisingly, those whose consoles are now expensive paperweights are advising people not to play the game.
"Happened to me as well", Terry2Toke, one of the hundreds of Reddit users who commented on the thread, revealed.
The game received worse reviews than Mass Effect: Andromeda, BioWare's previous game that was also plagued with issues at launch, and Anthem is unfortunately not faring any better on the technical front. PC owners and Xbox users have also reported similar issues, with the game suddenly forcing a hard reset.
Players who've requested a refund due the issue have reportedly done so with varying degrees of success. "The console powers down and will not power on using the normal method of pressing the PS4 button on the controller", wrote one player. As always, dealing with customer service is a crapshoot - whether or not you'll get an Anthem refund will depend on the particular agent.
Many reported that Sony had given refunds for digital versions of Anthem with "no questions asked" when users had complained and mentioned the system crash. Yet that's the case with Bioware's Anthem, as players have taken to Reddit to share their concerns about the game's imminent crashing on the PS4.Fortunately, it appears that Sony have begun issuing refunds for those affected. Oh boy they keep coming for Anthem don't they.
Currently, PS4 representatives are not looking for any specific reports or rationale behind a requested Anthem refund.
Updated March 5 with a tweet from EA calling for crash data reports.
Now, Sony is notoriously strict when it comes to player refunds.
