In December 2018, Donald Trump's charitable foundation agreed to dissolve under court supervision after a suit by the NY attorney general accused it of being "little more than a checkbook to serve Mr. Trump's business and political interests", according to CNN.
The New York Times reports James issued subpoenas to Deutsche Bank and Investors Bank on Monday for information on their financing of Trump's Bills bid and four Trump Organization projects.
According to the Times, James' investigation in NY is a civil case, not criminal. The press office for New Jersey-based Investors Bank didn't immediately return a call for comment.
During his testimony before Congress, former Trump fixer Michael Cohen said that Trump gave false financial statements to Deutsche Bank.
President Donald Trump blasted the state of NY and Governor Andrew Cuomo as the latest "PRESIDENTIAL HARASSERS" earlier tonight.
Cohen testified that Trump inflated his assetsand presented copies of financial statements he said were provided to Deutsche Bank. The subpoenas also are seeking records related to other transactions including Trump International Hotels in Chicago, Washington, D.C. and Florida.
The fact that Trump is already lashing out before James takes any public steps in the investigation suggests the attorney general has struck a nerve.
Olayinka Fadahunsi, Vice President of Communications at Deutsche Bank in NY, declined to comment on the subpoena.
The Trump Organization and Trump have not commented on the latest investigation.
Mr. Trump was also previously caught in litigation with the bank over outstanding balances on construction loans. Cohen, who made himself valuable to Trump by burying his potentially embarrassing deeds, is now trying to revive them in an effort to reduce his time behind bars.
Representative Maxine Waters of California, chairwoman of the Financial Services Committee, said on MSNBC earlier this month that Deutsche Bank is cooperating with her panel regarding its relationship with the president and concerns about "money laundering".
