The Gavins Point Dam in South Dakota is now releasing 100,000 cubic feet of water per second due to rapid plains snow melt and heavy rainfall.
Flood warnings are in effect for the Tittabawassee River in Midland from 3:12 p.m. Friday, March 15, through 2:40 a.m. Monday, March 18, and for the Saginaw River in Saginaw from 8 a.m. Saturday, March 16, through 2 p.m. Monday.
The U.S. Coast Guard says all traffic on the Missouri River from about 50 miles south of Omaha, Nebraska, downstream to St. Joseph, Missouri, has been shut down due to the river's high water levels. Do not forget to never drive through high water as you don't know how deep it really is or how stable the ground is.
Mark Becker, spokesperson for the Nebraska Public Power District told NPR the plant will continue operating for the foreseeable future.
"Anyone with interests along impacted rivers should monitor closely/take action", the weather service said. The city is now working to bolster levees.
Flood co-ordinators in Cambridge and North Dumfries are on high alert in the wake of a flood warning/flood watch message issued by the Grand River Conservation Authority late Wednesday afternoon. Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
"It was ugly. It still is", Jim Freeman said after using a chain saw to cut up a chunk of ice that floodwaters left in his driveway in Fremont, Nebraska.
"Northwest Missouri is already experiencing significant flooding that's closing roads and impacting homeowners and farmers, and the situation will affect many more Missourians in the coming days", Governor Parson said.
The midweek storm crippled parts of Colorado and Wyoming with blizzard conditions.
Iowa, Wisconsin and Nebraska have all declared states of emergencies.
At least four deaths were linked to the weather system.
The National Weather Service predicts "much calmer" weather in most areas this weekend, . "I have no place to go", said Dale Chaney of Percival.
Major to moderate flooding has been reported across Nebraska. SEMA also supplied St. Joseph with a sandbagging machine.
