After arriving on Reliance JioPhones in September 2018, messaging app WhatsApp is now available on Nokia's "8110" with India becoming the first market to receive the update in Nokia's feature device, HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones, announced on Tuesday. As we all know that this banana phone was launched at MWC 2018, running a version of the KaiOS platform dubbed Smart Feature OS. Users will need to verify their phone number and then they can begin chatting with other WhatsApp users one-on-one or in groups.
To recall, Nokia 8110 4G phone was announced in October previous year. I said potentially because some very popular apps intended smartphones can be run on it. Whatsapp is maybe one of the most wanted apps among the 8110 4G users, and now it's finally available for their beloved banana phone.
While the Nokia 8110 already has these apps pre-installed, it didn't have support for WhatsApp until now. The phone runs on KaiOS, just like its competitor Jio Phone 2, and the latter has had WhatsApp support since its launch previous year. The phone was to get WhatsApp support through Nokia Store with an update, and its finally arrived, nearly a year after its launch. It can be bought from Nokia's online store as well as Amazon and Flipkart. And with the Nokia 8110 4G feature phone getting this feature, the competition stiffens between both the feature phones. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE with hotspot, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS/ A-GPS, FM radio, a Micro-USB port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The device offers a 2.45-inch QVGA screen and is backed by 1500mAh battery.
The Nokia 8110 4G features a Snapdragon 205 SoC supported by 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage.
