The tornadoes were from a spring storm system that is shifting northward on Sunday, with the threat for severe weather focused on the Appalachians into the mid-Atlantic, according to Fox News Meteorologist Adam Klotz.
Multiple people have been reported injured as tornadoes continued to flare along the Mississippi-Alabama state line late Saturday and early Sunday. On Saturday morning, the storm system dropped hail ranging from the size of golf balls to baseballs on San Antonio. Damaging winds, Tornadoes, Hail and brief Heavy rain can be expected in some storms.
Meteorologist Monique Sellers said they've received reports of downed trees, as well as damage to buildings and a transmission tower.
There were reports of multiple injuries in the Robertson County town of Franklin, the NWS said, and KWTX reported widespread damage there.
On Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service stated "a tornado has been confirmed in far western Franklin County, AL (near Pleasant Site), though the total path length and EF-rating is yet to be determined". The weather service said the system is expected to shift to the Ohio Valley and the Southeast on Sunday.
As of early Sunday, all of Franklin and its neighboring city of Bremond were without electricity.
About two hours north of Franklin, dime-sized hail pelted the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The death is believed to be storm related, the sheriff's office said.
"The storm is so vigorous that tornadoes are still possible after dark", Myers said.
He said the threat for severe weather is greatest at such times but that the risk remained even after warm temperatures dropped.
"We were hit really, really, hard. We are just a mess", Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell told the outlet.
Georgia's Augusta National Golf Club is included in the slight risk area Sunday as the Masters golf tournament concludes.
The severe storms caused power outages across the area.
A strong cold front is on the move toward the state. Very heavy rain - capable of producing pockets of flash flooding, damaging wind gusts, hail, and even an isolated, short-lived tornado can not be ruled out.
