Williams and Hunter tied the knot in 1997 and share one son together, Kevin Hunter Jr.
Sources tell the publication that Kevin feels as if he "protected [Wendy's] interests" for the sum of her career and blocked any scammers and bad business deals from going down.
Hunter released an apology on Tuesday admitting he was not "proud of his recent actions" and was "trying to right some wrongs" while taking "full accountability" for what he had done.

Williams had taken an extended hiatus from the syndicated daytime talk show beginning late past year as she recovered from a fractured shoulder.
When returned to her show in March after a two-month hiatus to focus on her health.
"Addressing my sobriety, my addiction, head-on has really helped me sort out every single compartment of my life", she said.
"I have a commitment to me and my son to come out of here better, stronger and faster than ever", Williams added.
Reps for Williams and Hunter did not return PEOPLE's requests for comment.
