Mackenzie Lueck has been missing since June 17.
Salt Lake City assistant Police Chief Tim Doubt said Monday at a news conference that the Lyft driver who dropped off 23-year-old MacKenzie Lueck says she didn't seem in distress when she met the person on June 17 at about 3am.
One of Lueck's sorority sisters said that the student doesn't live there and she has "no idea why she would request to go to the North Salt Lake area".
Her family says she missed her midterms and has not been in communication with family or friends.
Mackenzie Lueck, 23, has not been seen or heard from for almost a week following a Lyft ride from the airport to an address in North Salt Lake.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that police said Friday that Mackenzie Lueck's parents reported her missing on Thursday afternoon.
The Lyft driver said Lueck did not appear distressed when she approached the other vehicle, Doubt said.
On that day, she arrived at Salt Lake City International Airport after a flight from Los Angeles to attend her grandmother's funeral, according to a Facebook page dedicated to finding her. The driver continued to give rides after Lueck's ride ended, Lyft added.
That was the last time she was seen. "If that is the case, Mackenzie, we are asking you to please reach out to either the Salt Lake City Police Department or a law enforcement agency where you are at", Doubt said.
Wilking said police have cleared the driver as a potential suspect.
Shearer went on to say that no formal search had been launched because police did not "have any credible evidence of where she might be".
She had ordered the vehicle from the airport earlier after flying in from California where she had been attending her grandmother's funeral.
"We don't have any evidence that any foul play has occurred", Doubt said.
Doubt also listed other avenues detectives are exploring, including writing and serving warrants, checking social media, canvassing the area around Hatch Park to try and get surveillance video from businesses or residents and knocking on doors around Hatch Park to see if residents have seen anything or had contact with her. "We just want to make sure you are safe and we will respect your wishes".
"Mackenzie is 5'6" tall, 120 pounds with a slim/athletic build, medium length blonde hair and brown eyes", the statement said.
