Fernandes emerged as a top United transfer target at the start of the summer but so far the Red Devils are yet to make an official approach for the Portugal worldwide midfielder - despite rumours that a deal is close to being concluded.
He is willing to continue at Sporting Lisbon if no move emerges.
24-year-old Fernandes is one of the hottest properties on the summer transfer market, following a standout season in Portugal in which he scored 32 times and provided 18 assists in all competitions.
The £70million-valued star is in demand this summer with both Manchester clubs and Liverpool interested.
However, the Daily Star are citing a report from Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha [above] that claims Fernandes has his heart set on joining Man Utd and is relaxed about the move as he feels a deal will eventually be agreed. "I am ready to move on". There's a lot of criticism around the players, sometimes it doesn't always go well."You work hard, you want to perform for the team, but some things go wrong, and these can be out of your control".
The report says United are yet to make a formal offer but a proposal is being prepared and Fernandes fully expects to become a Manchester United player before the start of the new Premier League season.
That's according to Kevin Kilbane, who believes City and Real have been linked with much higher calibre players in this summer's transfer window. Manchester City were initial favorites for his signature before turning their attentions to Rodri who they signed last week from Atletico Madrid.
Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table and without a trophy last season under Solskjaer after he was brought in to replace Jose Mourinho back in December.
