Despite the usual reports from the dressing room of disharmony between players and manager, Azpilicueta claimed the Chelsea players do not choose their managers.
"I have a way of working that can be taxing on the players and we wanted to get straight into it".
Azpilicueta added, "it was hard but every year we had a chance to bring back trophies to the Bridge and I think we've been doing quite well".
Lampard played a 4-2-3-1 system in the first game, and if he continues to play that system, Mason Mount, who was with him at Derby County last season, could play behind the striker.
Chelsea full-back Cesar Azpilicueta has said that Frank Lampard's lack of experience will not be an issue. 'In those moments we couldn't imagine a Chelsea side winning a trophy without those quality players.
"We know the fans can make the difference".
"It's very hard work, high intensity.
And being together and getting that feeling back of being all together as a club and then we know every year it's harder and harder and we have to be ready", the Chelsea captain claimed. 'We've been doing that quite well - and sometimes we could have done better. We are the players, we are not here to choose the manager or the others so now I think this it's in the past. No manager before has been willing, but something tells us that Lampard's arrival could be the making of him.
Lampard is now in Ireland with his squad preparing for his first game in charge, a pre-season friendly against Bohemians on Wednesday. Michy Batshuayi struck early before the Londoners conceded an equaliser in the 89th minute but this could not detract from the energising effect of the new manager. We follow him and I can see it in training, the way he wants to play, the way he wants us to feel the shirt, the way he wants us to train every day is something special.
Frank Lampard is reportedly looking to add Ashley Cole to his backroom staff at Chelsea.
"We haven't been back for long and this was our first game after just a few days so there was a bit of pressure on the lads to work. we've been working them hard".
"We wanted to win because you always do but it's not about that at this point", Lampard added.
