14 de julio de 2019, 10:40Paris, Jul 14 (Prensa Latina) European heads of state and government, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, are here today, to celebrate France " s National Day, and later participate in a meeting to promote a regional military project.
Tensions in the street remained high following months of demonstrations by the anti-Macron yellow vest protesters who want more help for French workers.
France's annual Bastille Day celebration became a showcase for European defense cooperation Sunday as other national leaders joined President Emmanuel Macron in Paris to inspect the troops marching in the country's annual military parade.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he has approved the creation of a space command within the country's air force in order to beef up its space defence policy and to better protect its strategic interests.
More trouble could be expected on Sunday night when the traditional Bastille Day fireworks is held, Lallement said, while seeking to reassure tourists they would be safe. But the show-stealer was the sight of a man rocketing through the air on a jet-powered flyboard, invented by French former jet-skiing champion Franky Zapata.
Eric Drouet, one of the original leaders of the movement, was pictured on social media being removed from a viewing barrier by police; it was not immediately clear if he was detained.
But as Macron opened the parade by being driven down the Champs-Élysées in an open-topped military vehicle, waving to a flag-carrying crowd, a few gilets jaunes (yellow vests) anti-government protestors, who had mingled with onlookers despite tight security, inflated yellow balloons and booed the president.
Several loud bangs could be heard.
While the parade ended without glitches, French police yesterday had to fire tear gas to disperse protesters from the Champs Elysees after the parade. He said some 200 rioters had tried to occupy the Champs Elysees but had been pushed out.
