Unicode spends months evaluating new emoji proposals, which are often submitted by tech employees as well as ordinary users. Since today's the world emoji day, both Apple and Google have chose to use this special day for launching a new bunch of emojis.

New animals and food are also being released, including a sloth, flamingo, waffles and a plate of falafel and houmous, and there will also be a yawning emoji. Users will still have the option to tap and hold on them to choose between male and female.

Apple and Google are both expected to launch their own interpretations of this year's characters later this year for iOS 13 and Android Q, respectively. In fact, 65% of respondents are more comfortable expressing their feelings with emojis than they would be over a telephone call.
